Cancer and Gut Health

Cases of early-onset cancer, where diagnosis happens in adults between the ages of 18 and 49, have escalated to 24% between the early 1990s and 2019, according to new analysis by Cancer Research. No other age group was found to have had a similar jump in numbers, with only 10% of those with over 75s being diagnosed, considered the most likely to suffer this ‘old age’ disease.

One of the biggest concerns in these worrying numbers, is the rise in colon cancer cases, with the suggestion from Bowel Cancer UK suggesting the disease can be linked to negative changes in the gut microbiome.  Since the symptoms of children and young people can be too quickly dismissed by doctors and clinicians as being the result of stress, hormones or even psychiatric, important cues are not being investigated properly.

All this suggests what we have known all along – gut health is key to keeping well in our colon or anywhere else in the body.  The way we are living now is increasing our risk of developing life-changing diseases.  The good news is that, if caught early, we can do something about it or mitigate it altogether.

Optimal Health offers a full Naturopathic Evaluation for babies and children aged 10 and under featuring the Oligoscan Nutritional Profiler.  We believe in being pre-emptive and recognising deficiencies or issues early on, so parents wanting to learn more about optimal health and early childhood development receive an in-depth and real-time picture of their children’s bodies and recommendations for adjustments.

These full body health checks, managed by one of our experienced Senior Clinicians, are specifically designed for children’s health care and use comprehensive diagnostic testing and consultation unlike the conventional medical philosophy of symptom management and suppression which relies on a watch-and-wait approach.

Anyone aged 11 and over is well-suited to a full body check at an Optimal Health Clinic called the Optimal Health Assessment.  An investment to future health outcomes, this is a pre-emptive approach – a 360-degree health assessment that looks at all aspects of health and wellbeing.  We use comprehensive diagnostic testing allowing us a unique and highly accurate evaluation of our clients’ health on which to work from.
